Rick Griffin
REPORTED BY Damon Way, 4, November 2007

I recently had the opportunity to see a Rick Griffin retrospective called “Heart and Torch”, which absolutely floored me. Until that time I was not totally aware of his importance relative to the 1960’s San Francisco psychedelic poster art movement. He created dozens of amazing typefaces and images that set the tone and visual direction for the scene, as well as for a number of bands during that time… this included The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, etc.

When researching his work online I was perplexed to discover that his website only showcased a fraction of his work… a real let down. I highly urge anyone that is interested in this kind of work to buy the book… you will not be disappointed as his skill with a pen/pencil is second to none.
