New York (Chinatown Newswire) — Only two months after an emotional goodbye to winger Joel Barnard, the Chinatown Soccer Club was dealt an equally punishing blow late last week when it emerged that Nicholas “Tricky Nick” Haggard had been granted a shock transfer to Los Angeles, the Newswire has learned.
“Nick [Haggard] has been an outstanding servant to this football club and while we would have liked for him to finish his career here in New York there was simply no way to force him to see out his contract once he had expressed a desire to move across the country for personal reasons,” a club spokesperson said.
Haggard’s farewell match was fittingly held at historic Forsyth Road.
In a throwback to the early years of the CSC, the Parks Department had failed to unlock the gates, forcing players like Dom “The Dominator” Neitz to scale the surrounding fence first thing in the morning.
Haggard visibly struggled to keep his emotions in check while suiting up for his last official game for the CSC.
Defender Peter “The Beard” Sutherland successfully lifted the mood by opting to play the match bare-chested.
Haggard lined up with his teammates following an entertaining match that saw the lanky winger score a rare headed goal.
Goalie Gerald “El Gato” Ding was one of the many stars in attendance for Haggard’s farewell drinks at Radegast Hall earlier in the week.
The pints flowed well into the night as players and staff traded stories of the skillful winger’s time with the club.
