Erin D Garcia – 23 Black Stacks for Multi-colored Paper Zine
Erin Garcia is a visual artist based in Los Angeles. Originally from the Deep South, his physical person and his work have both taken a long migratory path with many twists and turns along the way. Garcia’s current work is an exploration of where the human capacity for abstraction intersects or conflicts with the sensory desire for specificity. Each one of his drawings or paintings is part of a process of distillation, and there is a distinct feeling when you take many of them as a series that they are driving ever closer to a revelatory moment. The process of the work is exceedingly present here, the pieces are inextricable from the practice of their generation.
He has been in many group shows in Southern California over the years, and has of late had a run of solo exhibitions. After his debut in May 2012 at THIS gallery in Los Angeles, he was able to put together subsequent showings in San Francisco at the RVCA gallery as well as at Protein Gallery in London. In both of these subsequent events Garcia was able to involve his musical projects, ESP and Widows, and in the context of the rest of his work these offerings can be seen in the proper light: more as installation pieces than songs.
Garcia is currently working on material for a new series that furthers the insights offered by his previous collection.
